A parent calls concerned that their child has head lice. What are the key things you should cover during the initial conversation?
Recommended response:
Reassure the parent and understand their situation. Explain that it’s important to treat the entire family at the same time, as head lice can easily transfer between family members. Reinforce that LiceDoctors Head4Lice treatment is designed to kill both live lice and unhatched eggs, so a second application is not required. Egg casings may remain attached to the hair after treatment, but these will no longer hatch.

How can you tell the difference between an unhatched egg and an egg casing that has already hatched?
Key learning:
An unhatched egg is usually darker, sits very close to the scalp and still contains the developing louse. A hatched egg casing is generally white or clear, empty and often found further down the hair shaft as the hair grows. After treatment, egg casings can remain attached to the hair, but treated eggs will no longer hatch.

What is the key point of difference of the LiceDoctors Head4Lice treatment?
Key learning:
Head4Lice is designed to penetrate and kill the dark, unhatched eggs as well as live lice that have already hatched on the scalp. This means a repeat treatment is not necessary when the product is used correctly.

What cleaning and sterilisation procedures should be followed between clients?

Follow the LiceDoctors hygiene and sterilisation process for reusable tools and work surfaces between every client. Refer to the current training manual for the exact procedure.

What advice should you give a family to help reduce the chance of reinfestation?
Key learning:
Keep long hair tied as close to the scalp as possible to help reduce hair-to-hair transfer, and apply LiceDoctors Preventative Spray over the hair for added protection. If children have been in a high-risk environment, such as a sleepover where head lice may have been present, treat them with Head4Lice as soon as they return home before resuming normal activities.

Is combing required after using the Head4Lice treatment?
Key learning:
No. A comb-out is not required for Head4Lice treatment to be effective. During a professional service, a comb-out may be performed to demonstrate that the lice are no longer moving and to help assess the infestation, but it is optional. This makes Head4Lice particularly suitable for people with hair extensions, dreadlocks, or children who will not tolerate combing. Apply the treatment, wrap the hair for 30 minutes, then rinse in the shower as directed.
